NELION WINERY NEAR PRETORI VILLAGE
The first bottles of Nelion wine were produced in 1996, and such was the success of this vintage, the family then decided to go into full production, and so they started work on building their own custom designed winery.
The Nelion winery opened in 1998 and this fine example of home crafting, boasts great attention to detail, the atmosphere is also extremely welcoming, and these elements have resulted in the creation of a small, but perfectly functional winery.

Well, Neofytos Ioannou freely admits that his wife Nitsa, is his strong, other half, especially when it comes to the actual running of the wine tasting, and the accompanying generous hospitality, offered to visitors at the Nelion winery. Situated close to the sleepy village of Pretori where only forty people still reside, Nelion is set high above the main road, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, here passing tourists, and the many regular wine experts can stop, come in, and relish a perfectly happy few hours whiling away the time, sipping on the fruits of the Ioannou's labours. |

This is a place where small groups of visitors can find out more about the actual process of wine making, they can also view some artefacts, collected from a bygone age, all of which, have been handed down through generations of local wine makers.
Open from 9am until 7pm in the summer months and 9am to 5pm in the winter the place is nearly always busy with visitors, most of whom, have made the rather pleasant drive up from Paphos, and Limassol to stock up on a few bottles or cases of the Nelion wines.

NELION WHITE - variety xinisteri, palomino - a dry white with yellow transparent colour with light aroma of peach and apricot
NELION ROSE - variety grenache, cinsault - a dry rose with light rose colour and a smooth refreshing taste
NELION RED - variety cabernet franc grenache, cinsault - a dry red wine, bright light red colour with light aroma of red fruits
CABERNET SAUVIGNON - variety cabernet sauvignon - a dry red wine, deep red colour with aroma of oak with a hint of green and black pepper
CINSAULT - variety cinsault - a dry red wine with medium intensity, red colour with rose and morello aromas
NELION OFTHALMO - variety ofthalmo-maratheftiko - a dry red wine with rich burgundy colour with a unique aroma of herbs
NELION SHIRAZ - variety shiraz - a dry red wine with deep red colour, medium aroma of red fruits and herbs
GRENACHE-CINSAULT - variety grenache-cinsault - a red medium-sweet wine with aroma of red fruits with a light taste of apricot
XINISTERI - variety xinisteri - a medium-sweet white wine, yellow transparent colour with light aromas of peach and apricot
NELION GRENACHE - variety grenache - a sweet red wine with bright light red colour and a light aroma of red fruits
MUSCAT HAMBURG - variety muscat hamburg - a sweet red wine with aroma of red fruits and a light taste of apricot
