Cypriot cuisine has been influenced by different cultures throughout history. Traditional Cypriot dishes make good use of the abundant fruit and vegetables. Cypriot cuisine includes a great variety of vegetable dishes, grills, pastry, fish, soups and many more.
Local Cyprus dishes are delicious, particularly the Cyprus meze. This is a speciality of Cyprus and consists of a large number of cold and hot hors d'oeuvres such as different salads, meats, vegetable, and fish dishes. It is taken either as an appetizer or a main course.
Olive oil produced from the trees prominent throughout the region adds to the distinctive taste of Greek food. Cyprus is famous for its fruit and vegetables, you'll find strawberries, stone fruit, melons, prickly pear, citrus and grapes, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, aubergines, squash and many more.
To compliment the many wonderful dishes available in Cyprus there are numerous local wines to try, these are for sale in supermarkets and kiosks across the Island or better still take a trip to one of the many wineries and sample them first hand.
