Beaches Minimize

Beaches There are many beaches dotted around the rugged and stunning coastline of the Island. Some are beautiful and sandy, others are very stony and shingly. Cyprus has a 'Blue Flag' system for designating which beaches are the cleanest and this information can usually be found locally or by checking with the CTO (Cyprus Tourist Authority). You MUST be over 18 to hire a jet ski!!!!

Limassol Area Beaches

Kurium Beach Take the old B6 towards Paphos from Limassol and you will find Kurium Beach about 15k south of the town, near Episkopii. It is a long sandy beach with 3 restaurants all serving drinks and food.

It gets crowded in the summer and at weekends and you can find paraboarding and windsurfing taking place when the stiff wind blows in from the sea.

There are warning signs about currents!!!

Governors Beach Can be found about 20km up the coast from Limassol it is a huge sandy beach, again with a selection of bars and restaurants. Sun bed and parasol hire, as on all beaches, is available here.

Dasoudi Beach is the main Limassol beach that stretches from the port right the way along to The Meridian Hotel at the Northern end of the tourist area. Not all parts of it are accessible.

Ladysmile Located at the western end of Limassol and with a number of restaurants on it. Ladysmile is a popular local beach, with calm waters and a large sandy beach. The beach divides roughly into two sections, one half being very stony, the other sandy. It is safe for children and you will find some water sport available here too.

Beaches Between Limassol and Paphos

Petra Tou Romiou
signposted off the Limassol/Pafos highway is a popular spot because of Aphrodite. Many people sightsee here and the beach is quite stony and shingly, but there is plenty of room. There is a shop and parking area opposite the beach.

Pissouri Beach at Pissouri Bay is another sand and shingle beach and is quite popular. All the usual facilities but parking is a little bit limited. Many park and walk to the beach area.

Paphos/Coral Bay Area Beaches

The main beach in Paphos
is the large municipal beach, which is largely sandy, and as you would expect, pretty busy during the high season. As usual, water sport and sun beds can be found for hire.

Coral Bay is a crescent shaped beach just under half a mile in length, cove shaped and sheltered by a jutting headland at each end. There is a thriving village atmosphere with a number of eating and drinking establishments that can provide all the food and drink you need. There are some super hotels too for some classy accommodation. The main attraction is the generally calm sea where you can enjoy all the usual types of water sports associated with a busy resort beach. Do also be aware of currents in the area.

Polis Area Beaches

The Polis
area also has a selection of beaches and a campsite that is used throughout the summer. Pomis beach runs from the north of  Polis right up to Pomis and is mostly just a long shingle beach - the main road is often fairly close so getting onto the shingle is no problem. It is  mostly deserted so finding your own quiet spot is easy.

Akamas Peninsular is full of beaches - and they are mostly easily accessible. These run from Pomis up through Lakki and Polis and then onto the peninsular. There are more beaches north of Aphrodites baths some sand but mostly shingle. They are quite small usually and generally deserted - maybe just the odd fisherman - there are certainly no facilities up in this area. You are not meant to drive up this side of the peninsular, so access is best on foot or by cycle.

Larnacas Area Best Beaches

(by Craig Petchey- Source Original Oroklini Newsletter August 2010 Issue)

Castella Beach (Blue Flag)
It was named Castella Beach because it's close to Larnacas castle, which is just under 1 mile to the east.  This beach is made of fine sand is about 400 metres but can be slightly breezy at times so hold on to your hats.

Pyla Beach/CTO Beach (Blue Flag)  Pyla Beach, the beach is close to central Larnaca and is on the main Dhekelia Road, whcih makes it popular with families staying in hotels along the beach.  there are lots of restaurants and taverns nearby if you want to get out of the sun and maybe enjoy a pint away from the kids.  CTO Beach is know for its activities, which include volleyball, handball, a playground area for younger children and plenty of water sports, most popular being the paracending.

Dhekelia Beach The longest sandy beach in Larnaca, Dhekelia Beach provides a stunning backdrop for many of the most popular resort hotel complexes, a number of hotels permit access to their onsite amenities for a small charge.  Dhekelia road which runs alongside the sand is lined with restaurants and bars.

Faros Beach (Cape Kiti) A small, quiet and appealing beachfront with bar and jet skis, Faros Beach is great for families holidaying in Larnaca, particularly those with younger children, since the sea is shallow and calm.  Faros Beach is easy to reach and relatively close by and is located  within the village of
Pervolia.

Finikoudes (Phinikoudes) Beach
Finikoudes has a tropical setting and is lined with mature plam trees, it is perhaps the premier beachfront in Larnaca and in the summer months, is usually heaving with tourists probably because of the activites, water sports and entertainment available here.  Sun loungers and parasols are offered for hire, while lots of different types of eateries line the front including some familiar fast-food chains.  Such as Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays, McDonalds and KFC.  Finikoudes is also close to various popular entertainment venues on the main promenade, as well as being close to the marine which ofers regular boat trips.

McKenzie Beach (Blue Flag) On the outskirts of Larnaca and close to the top hotels, McKenzie Beach is an expanse of white sand and has a car park just across the road.  This is a good spot to try scuba diving in Cyprus.  There are plenty of seafood restaurants in this area and traditional Cyprus taverns.  A good place for plane spotting too as there is a good view of the planes landing and taking off from Larnaca airport here.

Eastern Cyprus Area Beaches

Konnos Bay
This is a beautiful secluded golden sandy beach located between Protaras and Cape Greco.  Follow the sign for Mikes Watersports and you will be directed down a lovely tree lined winding road to the little car park just above the beach.  There is a little snack bar here also.  For the watersports enthusiast Mikes Watersports can cater for all your needs from floating sunbeds to jet skis, fun rides, boat trips and water ski lessons.
